Unlike Grok, which prices SuperGrok at just ₹700/mo in India through aggressive PPP-adjusted tiers, ChatGPT takes a different approach. OpenAI prices ChatGPT Plus at the standard global tier, and the ₹1,999/mo sticker price lands close to the US equivalent once India’s 18% GST is factored in. There’s no emerging-market discount at play here. The ₹1,999 tier pre-tax works out to roughly ₹1,694, or about $19.81, nearly identical to the US base of $19.99.

This flat-pricing strategy contrasts with OpenAI’s earlier moves in India. The company previously offered ChatGPT Go free for 12 months to Indian users as a market-entry promotion. That program has ended, and current pricing suggests OpenAI views India as a market that can sustain standard rates. The rupee’s relative stability (-2.8% over the past year) supports this: unlike Nigeria, there’s no currency-driven arbitrage. Philippines at $15.68/mo and United Kingdom at $26.76/mo mark the extremes, with India sitting squarely in the middle of the pack at #11.
