Read from each country’s own App Store storefront, one request per country. Prices come off the product page itself; the streaming apps use the same catalogue endpoint the web storefront calls, which returns the price as a number and a currency code rather than a localized string. A storefront that does not sell the app records nothing at all, never a substituted price.

Read from each country’s Play listing. Play publishes only an app’s cheapest and dearest in-app purchase, so these files carry those two ends and nothing in between, which is why Play and App Store figures are kept as separate datasets rather than merged. Which plan sits at each end is confirmed by hand against the US listing before a product is published.

Read from the price endpoint Nintendo’s own storefront pages call, using each title’s regional product ID. It is public but not a documented API with stability guarantees, so a change in its shape shows up as a failed run rather than as a silently wrong number.

Read from Apple’s regional online stores. Each buy page carries its configuration data as JSON, and the figure taken is the default SKU for the configuration listed, which is the store’s own “From” price for that model. Requests are spaced a few seconds apart at random rather than on a fixed beat, and a run that meets a wall of refusals stops instead of pressing on.

What it is used for

Converting each local price into the USD column that makes a lira and a yen comparable. The local price is always shown beside it, because the converted figure is the derived number, not the real one.
